A Vinyl Cone With a Chrome Ball, Sold One at a Time

The Vibrapod Cone is sold singly, so you buy exactly the number a component needs. It is a double-truncated vinyl cone, 1.1 inches tall and 1 5/8 inches across, with a 7/16-inch chrome ball fixed in its tip. Each Cone carries up to 25 pounds.

A hard cone couples a component to the shelf at one point. A soft foot absorbs but can blur. Vibrapod makes the Cone from the same vinyl as its Isolators and adds a fixed ball. The component sits on a firm point that still rides on a soft base.

Fit, Load and Materials

Each Cone is rated for a maximum of 25 pounds, so three carry a 75-pound component and four carry 100. No minimum is published. Vibrapod makes the Cone to work with its Isolators. When the two are stacked, the Isolator's lower rating sets the load for the pair.

The Cone is 1.1 inches tall and 1 5/8 inches across at the base. The ball is a fixed 7/16-inch chrome ball that does not roll. Vibrapod says any 7/16-inch ball can replace it, so a tungsten carbide or ceramic ball is an easy experiment.

The Cone is the point-contact half of the Vibrapod system. The Vibrapod Isolators are the soft pods, sold in sets of four in five stiffnesses. Vibrapod designs the Cone to stand on an Isolator or to work alone under players, DACs, preamps, amps, turntables and speakers.

How many do I need?

Do I need the Isolators as well?

The Cone works on its own under a component. Vibrapod also designs it to stand on top of an Isolator, and says to use the Isolator's weight rating when the two are stacked.

Does the ball roll?

The 7/16-inch chrome ball is fixed in the tip of the cone, so the component does not creep. It can be pressed out and replaced with any 7/16-inch ball.

Will the Cone mark my shelf?

The base is vinyl and sits flat, so it does not dig in the way a metal spike does. Vibrapod notes that its vinyl can mark wood, acrylic and lacquer. Use a coaster on a fine finish.
