Six Myrtle Blocks Cut to the Golden Ratio, for Lighter Components
Cardas Audio Myrtle Wood Blocks are sold as a set of six. Each small block is .618 by 1 by 1.618 inches, cut from Oregon myrtle to the golden ratio and laser-engraved with the Cardas logo. Three or four go under a component, in place of its feet or beside them.
A component's feet couple it to whatever the shelf is doing. Cardas offers the blocks as equipment footers, to isolate gear and to open space between components. The component rests on dense hardwood instead of on its stock feet.

Cardas publishes no load rating for the blocks. Myrtle is denser than oak, and a solid block carries a component without compressing, so the question is stability rather than weight. Cardas suggests the small blocks for a light component such as a streamer, DAC, tuner, preamp or modest amp.
Each block is .618 by 1 by 1.618 inches, so it can stand on any face and give 0.618, 1 or 1.618 inches of height. That makes it a spacer as well as a footer: a taller face opens airflow under a warm amp or lifts a component clear of the one below.
Cardas cuts the blocks from myrtle that grows only in Coos and Curry counties in southwest Oregon. The wood is dense enough that unseasoned logs will not float, and its grain varies from satin grey to red, yellow and brown with burls. The large block, 1 by 1.618 by 2.618 inches, is the other size.

How Do You Set Them Up?
Decide how many blocks the component needs, three or four, and which face gives the height you want. Set the blocks on the shelf under the chassis, near the corners and clear of the stock feet. Lower the component onto the wood and check that it sits level and does not rock.
