The Model the Silver Range Never Had

This is the one truly new speaker in the eighth generation. The Silver 7G range had no on-wall model at all, only the sealed Silver FX surround, so there was nothing to carry forward.

The Silver On-Wall 8G replaces it with something far more capable, and the numbers make the case. It reaches 44 Hz in-room at minus 6 dB, where the FX stopped at 81 Hz.

The layout is a plain two-way. A single 6-inch C-CAM mid-bass driver with RST III cone geometry does the heavy lifting, and a 25mm C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter takes over at 2.9 kHz. Silent Flow port technology handles the bass alignment, tuned to 47 Hz.

Monitor Audio also designed it to work either way up, so you can stand it vertically as a left or right channel, lay it horizontally under a screen as a center, or hang a pair at the sides for surrounds. One model covering all three jobs simplifies a system build considerably.

Measured on the Wall, Not in Free Air

Here is a small detail that says a lot. Every other Silver 8G speaker lists its sensitivity measured in free space, but this one lists 88 dB measured installed, against a wall. That is the only place it will ever be used. Monitor Audio published the number that actually applies to you.

The load is friendly too: nominal impedance is 8 ohms and the minimum only drops to 5.5 ohms, the gentlest curve in the Silver 8G range. If you are asking an AV receiver to drive seven or nine channels at once, that matters more than a headline wattage figure.

The eighth-generation driver work is all here. RST III cone geometry stiffens the cone and cuts coloration through the vocal range, which is where an on-wall speaker earns its keep.

The Gold Dome tweeter gained a vented rear chamber, an updated compression ring, and a ring neodymium magnet. It sits in the Uniform Dispersion Waveguide II, so the spread stays even at any volume.

Through-Bolt Technology anchors the driver to the rear of the cabinet at a set torque. That braces the driver and stiffens the box at once. Internal bracing and damping do the rest.

Who Is This On-Wall Speaker Best For?

  • People who have run out of floor space — A wall-mounted cabinet solves the problem a stand cannot.
  • Anyone building a full Silver 8G system — It works as a front left and right pair, a center, or surrounds.
  • Owners of a multichannel receiver — A 5.5-ohm minimum is easy on an amplifier driving many channels at once.
  • Listeners who want real output from a wall speaker — 44 Hz and 112 dB peaks are well beyond typical on-wall territory.
  • Anyone with a proper spot for speakers already — At 18 inches tall and nearly 20 pounds, this is no discreet slimline panel. If you have room for a stand or a shelf, a pair of Silver 50 8G bookshelf speakers gives you more speaker for the money, over in Bookshelf Speakers.

How Does It Connect to Your System?

Wiring is standard: run speaker cable from your amplifier or receiver to the binding posts, red to red and black to black.

Mounting deserves more thought than wiring. Check what is behind the drywall before you commit, because each cabinet weighs 8.9 kg and needs a fixing that can carry it. Plan the height around your ears when seated, not your eyes when standing, and measure the 135mm the cabinet stands off the wall against any furniture below.

Pairs Well With

A few good places to look next:

  • AV Receivers — The natural partner for a multichannel on-wall setup.
  • Subwoofers — A 44 Hz roll-off leaves the bottom octave to a sub.
  • Floorstanding Speakers — Silver 8G towers up front with On-Walls at the sides.
  • Speaker Cables — A clean run behind the wall or along the baseboard.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I mount it vertically or horizontally?

Both, since Monitor Audio designed the Silver On-Wall 8G for either orientation, so it works as a left, right, or center channel.

How far does it stick out from the wall?

135mm, or about 5 5/16 inches, which makes it a substantial cabinet rather than a slim panel.

Do I need a subwoofer?

For movies, yes, because the speaker reaches 44 Hz in-room and a subwoofer covers the effects below that.

How much amplifier power does it need?

Monitor Audio recommends 25 to 100 watts into 8 ohms, or 50 to 200 watts into 4 ohms, with 100 watts of continuous handling.

Can I use it as a Dolby Atmos height speaker?

Monitor Audio built the Silver AMS 8G for height duty, while the On-Wall is intended for left, right, center, and surround channels.

What warranty does Monitor Audio offer?

Monitor Audio lists a five-year warranty across the Silver Series 8G range.
