A True Three-Way, in a Standmount Cabinet
Most standmounts are two-ways, with one driver covering everything from bass to the crossover. The Silver 100 8G is a true three-way. An 8-inch C-CAM bass driver, a dedicated 3-inch C-CAM midrange driver and a 25 mm C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter each take their own band.
The crossovers sit at 610 Hz and 2.9 kHz. That leaves the bass driver doing only bass and gives the voice range a driver of its own, which is the reason Monitor Audio built the cabinet bigger this generation.
RST III, and Why the Cones Are Dimpled
Both the bass and midrange cones use Rigid Surface Technology III, the third generation of Monitor Audio’s dimpled cone surface. The pattern stiffens the metal so the cone moves as a piston rather than flexing, and Monitor Audio credits it with deeper, more controlled low frequencies.
The Numbers, and What They Ask of You
Monitor Audio quotes an in-room response of 33 Hz to 35 kHz at minus 6 dB. Sensitivity is 87 dB. Nominal impedance is 8 ohms, with a minimum of 3.7 ohms at 140 Hz, so the amplifier needs to be comfortable with a real load.
The recommendation is 50 to 200 watts into 8 ohms, or 100 to 400 watts into 4 ohms. Continuous power handling is 200 watts and peak output is quoted at 114 dB. The rear port is tuned to 37 Hz.
The Port Borrowed From an Owl
Monitor Audio calls it the Silent Flow port. Its flare geometry is modeled on the interlocking wing feathers that let an owl fly without noise, guiding air smoothly through the port and cutting the chuffing sound a plain port can make on deep notes.

Ed Selley reviewed the Silver 100 8G for Sound Advice on August 18, 2026, and found "the result is cleaner, better controlled (but still impressively deep) bass. More than that, it’s bass you can feel as well as hear".
On the handover: "Close your eyes and listen to the Silver 100 8G – there are precious few audible clues that there is more than one driver at work, let alone three." His conclusion: "This is a fascinating, extremely likeable speaker."

Speaker cable runs from your amplifier to the binding posts on the back of each cabinet, red to red and black to black, with both runs the same length. Given the 3.7 ohm dip, favor an amplifier with current to spare over one that merely matches the wattage.
Stands are not optional here. Choose a pair rated for the weight with a top plate wide enough for a 9-inch cabinet, bring the tweeter to ear height, and pull the speakers off the rear wall so the port can breathe.
