Two Meters, 180 Watts a Side, and No Menus

The AMP-F8 does one job. It takes a signal from your preamp or streamer and turns it into 180 watts per channel into 8 ohms, or 280 watts into 4 ohms. Flip the rear bridge switch and it becomes a single mono channel rated at 500 watts into 8 ohms.

Two analog VU meters run across the front, calibrated in watts, with needles that track the music in real time. A switch on the back turns their backlight off. EverSolo left the front panel otherwise bare, which is the point of a power amplifier.

Measure Your Shelf Before You Order

At 10.4 inches wide, 15.3 deep and 4.7 tall, the AMP-F8 is narrow and deep rather than full width. It weighs 35 pounds. Each channel takes one balanced XLR or one unbalanced RCA input, and a rear switch sets gain to 23 dB or 29 dB.

What 800 Watts of Power Supply Buys You

A custom 800-watt toroidal linear transformer feeds the amplifier, with separate supply rails for the left and right channels. Behind it sits a bank of 24 audio-grade filter capacitors, there to smooth ripple and hold current in reserve for the loud parts.

A DC blocking circuit sits ahead of the transformer. DC riding on your household AC is what makes a toroid buzz mechanically, and older wiring and cheap dimmers are the usual causes. This circuit is aimed at that problem.

Three Matched MOSFET Pairs Per Side

The Class AB output stage uses three pairs of precision-matched high-current MOSFETs per channel, on separate left and right boards. Matching matters because devices that switch at slightly different points hand the waveform between them untidily, and that handoff is what a distortion analyzer reads.

Why the Background Goes Quiet

EverSolo publishes total harmonic distortion of 0.003% at 1 kHz and a signal-to-noise ratio of 115 dB or better, A-weighted. Crosstalk is rated at −95 dB or lower. Frequency response runs 10 Hz to 30 kHz, within half a decibel.

Damping factor is quoted above 400 into 8 ohms, a measure of how tightly the amplifier holds a woofer between notes. Both inputs present 10 kilohms. The chassis is CNC-machined from a single aluminum billet, cooled by convection through side heatsinks with no fan.

Who Is This Power Amplifier Best For?

  • Your speakers are more than your current amplifier can handle — 180 watts into 8 ohms and 280 into 4 gives you headroom on low-sensitivity floorstanders, so orchestral swells and film soundtracks do not run out of room.
  • You already own an EverSolo streamer or DAC — balanced XLR, unbalanced RCA and a 12-volt trigger mean the AMP-F8 wakes with your source and needs no adapters in the signal path.
  • You want to upgrade in stages — buy one now for stereo, add a second later and bridge both into 500-watt monoblocks, so your first purchase stays in the system instead of going up for sale.
  • You like watching the music as well as hearing it — the VU meters read in watts and the backlight switches off from the rear panel, so the amplifier can be the centerpiece or disappear into a dark room.
  • You have a preamp, or a source with a volume control — this is pure amplification, with no volume knob, no DAC and no streaming built in. Feed it from one of our preamplifiers and the whole system comes together.

How Does It Connect to Your System?

Run a balanced XLR or unbalanced RCA cable from your preamp or variable-output streamer to the matching input on the back. Set the gain switch to 23 dB if your speakers are sensitive and your volume control bunches up at the bottom of its travel, or 29 dB if you need more.

Speaker cables land on gold-plated binding posts. Add the supplied trigger cable if your source has a 12-volt output, or let signal sensing bring the amplifier up on its own. Then plug in the power cord and leave it alone.

Pairs Well With

The pieces that finish a system built around the AMP-F8:

  • Music streamers — a streaming DAC with a volume control drives this amplifier directly, no separate preamp required.
  • Interconnect cables — no XLR or RCA cable ships in the box, so plan on a pair in the length your rack needs.
  • Speaker cables — spades or bananas both land cleanly on the gold-plated posts.
  • Floorstanding speakers — the big, power-hungry designs this amplifier was built to drive.

Frequently Asked Questions

What comes in the box with the EverSolo AMP-F8?

The amplifier ships with a power cable, a trigger cable and the user manual. Signal cables and speaker cables are sold separately, so order those with it if you are starting from scratch.

Should I use the XLR or the RCA input?

Either works, and both present 10 kilohms. Use XLR when your source has balanced outputs, especially on long cable runs. RCA is the right choice for the many preamps and streamers that offer single-ended outputs only.

Can I run two of them as monoblocks?

Yes. The rear bridge switch turns each amplifier into a single 500-watt channel into 8 ohms, one per speaker. Bridged operation is rated for 8-ohm loads, so check your speaker's impedance curve before you commit to a pair.

How does the AMP-F8 turn on and off?

Three ways. Use the 12-volt trigger input if your source has a trigger output, let signal sensing wake it when music arrives, or work the standby switch on the rear panel yourself.

Can I turn the VU meter lights off?

A switch on the rear panel kills the meter backlight. The needles still move, they just stop glowing, which is what most people want in a darkened listening room at night.

How much ventilation does it need?

Cooling is passive, through heatsinks along both sides and vents in the top panel. Leave clearance above and beside the chassis on your rack shelf, and keep the side fins away from cabinet walls.
